Functions: Advice - The DEP provides the EPA with professional and technical support and also provides advice to the Minister for the Environment on environmental protection issues. Legal- The department manages the statutory processes of the Act to make certain that the legal requirements to assess the potential impacts of development proposals are met, providing sound, technical advice to government, the EPA and developers. On behalf of the EPA, the department also manages the development of legally binding environmental policies. Technical--The department also has separate functions and responsibilities which include studying environmental problems and recommending solutions, licensing industries which have the potential to pollute and enforcing pollution prevention and clean-up laws.
