African Lubricants Industry
http://www.mbendi.co.za/indy/oilg/lubs/af/p0000.htm

"The African lubricants industry is closely associated and inter-related with the African oil industry and also with the African chemicals industry. Lubricants markets are closely connected with the markets for fuels and with the refining industry. The African consumption of lubricants accounts for approximately five percent of the total world demand of about 37 million tonnes/a. While there has been a general world-wide decline in the demand for lubricants during the 1990s, the rate of decline in African demand has been somewhat slower and Africa's share of the world market has shown marginal increase over the period."

African Oil Industry
http://mbendi.co.za/mbendi/afoi.htm

"Africa is a continent of 54 countries with an estimated end-1994 population of 700 million people. The upstream oil industry is key to the continent of Africa and in 1994 produced 6.86 million barrels per day (342 million tonnes) of over 40 types of crude oil. Africa's upstream oil industry is dominated by 5 countries which together account for 90% of the continent's oil production. The leading oil producing countries are Algeria, Libya, and Egypt in North Africa, and Angola and Nigeria in sub-Saharan Africa. Other oil producing countries are Gabon, Congo and Cameroon. In the next few years, a number of other African countries aim to increase their output or become first time producers. Included in this list are Chad, Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Zaire, Namibia, South Africa and Madagascar while Mozambique and Tanzania are potential gas producers."

African Refineries

The oil refineries and synfuels plants that can be found in Africa are listed below, as well as those that are currently mothballed, while the graph shows refinery capacity in Southern Africa."
